A company in Chesterfield County is expanding and is expected to create nearly 200 jobs.
Schaeffler Group USA, an automotive and industrial component supplier, announced Thursday that it will expand its existing operations in Chesterfield County. This would be its second major expansion in the past two years.
Officials say the $40 million expansion is expected to create 190 new jobs. The announcement was made public in a release by the state Department of Commerce.
Schaeffler has been in business for more than 40 years in Cheraw and has two plants in Chesterfield County. Officials say both facilities will be expanded to produce bearings and engine components for new automotive applications.
The expansions are expected to be finished by 2013.
Schaeffler Group USA has several different plants in South Carolina, including Fort Mill and Spartanburg, employing more than 2,300 people?? making it one of the largest German-based manufacturers in the state.
