Erie's Athlete of the 20th Century is back in town.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff leads a group of sports celebrities who will appear tonight at the 49th annual Charity Sports Banquet at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 W. Eighth St. The Erie Times-News selected Biletnikoff as Erie's Athlete of the Century in 2000.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Fred Biletnikoff Foundation.
Event founder and organizer Art Arkelian has assembled a guest list that includes a who's who of football: Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Andy Russell and assistant coach Randy Fichtner, former Cleveland Browns Reggie Rucker, Kevin Mack, Ross Fichtner and Mike Pruitt, former Bills lineman Ruben Brown, former Penn State standouts Blair Thomas and Kenny Jackson, and former Notre Dame stars Tony Rice, Reggie Brooks and Tony Brooks.
A pair of high school standouts, Cathedral Prep quarterback Damion Terry and Corry cross country runner Austin Pondel, also will be honored during the event.
