A family of 12 escaped their burning home in Edgerton just after 2:00 this morning.
Homeowner, Victor Gonzalez, said he heard a pop coming from the furnance on the top floor of their three story home.
He got his wife and ten children out of his house of 16 years and over to a neighbor's house where they are now staying until finding a more permanent location. Victor says he has many offers, and the community's outreach is overwhelming.
"We are greiving, and when we walk through it we're going to shed tears. But the tears we've shed inside have been people asking what can we do, how can we help?"
More than 20 fire departments were called out to help battle the blaze because of the below zero temperatures that caused water and their tools to freeze. They battled the fire for about five hours and chased hot spots through the afternoon.
The damage on the top floor is extensive, but there were no injuries.
"It's just one big happy warm household, and for this to happen to them is just a darn shame," said neighbor, Fred Maves
